The President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) Honourable Justice Augustino Ramadhani has been awarded Tanzania’s ‘’Order of the Union’’ Medal for distinguished service to his country.
The medal was awarded by Tanzania’s President H.E Jakaya Kikwete during Tanzania Mainland’s 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations at the State House in Dar es Salaam.
Justice Ramadhani was among selected Tanzanians to receive the award; one of the highest recognition for outstanding achievement and service.
Prior to being appointed Judge of the African Court in 2010, Justice Ramadhani was a Justice of Appeal of the United Republic of Tanzania from 1989 to 2010, and in his last three years on the bench, served as Chief Justice of Tanzania. Justice Ramadhani was also the Chief Justice of Zanzibar from 1980 to 1989. He also served as a Judge of the East African Court of Justice from 2001 to 2007.
The Registrar of African Court, Dr Robert Eno, on behalf of the staff members of the Registry of the Court has congratulated Justice Ramadhani for the honour.
‘’We have received the news with great honour and pride,’’ he said.
