AFRICAN COURT ON HUMAN AND PEOPLES’ RIGHTS WILL BEGIN ITS 71st ORDINARY SESSION IN THE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ALGERIA ON MONDAY 6 NOVEMBER 2023.

Arusha, 5 November 2023: The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) will begin its 71st Ordinary Session on Monday, 6 November 2023 in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The Judges, among others, will deliberate on thirteen (13) applications during the four-week session that will close on 4 December 2023.

The Solemn Opening Ceremony will be on 7 November 2023 followed by the delivery of 9 judgments listed below:

1. Application No. 003/2016 – John Lazaro v. United Republic of Tanzania
2. Application No. 033/2016 – Makungu Misalaba v. United Republic of Tanzania
3. Application No. 034/2016 – Juma Haruna v. United Republic of Tanzania   
4. Application No. 045/2016 – Charo Said Kimilu v. United Republic of Tanzania
5. Application No. 049/2016 – Chrizant John v. United Republic of Tanzania
6. Application No. 014/2017 – Hassan Bundala Swaga v. United Republic of Tanzania
7. Application No. 026/2017 – Mauridi Swedi v. United Republic of Tanzania
8. Application No. 022/2018 – Youssouf Traoré and Others v. Republic of Mali
9. Application No. 011/2021 – Lehady Vinangnon Soglo v. Republic of Benin

The sitting for the delivery of judgments will take place at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center, Salle Polyvalente Number 6 and this will be live streamed via the links:

During the session in Algeria, the Court intends to conduct courtesy visits to High-Level Government representatives and the Bar Association to raise awareness about the Court’s mandate and functions.
