Arusha, 16 October, 2015: The envoys of France and Rwanda to Tanzania yesterday paid courtesy calls on the President of African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Hon. Justice Augustino Ramadhani, at the seat of the Court in Arusha.
H.E. Ambassador Malika Berak said there was a great potential of co-operation and exchange of experiences between France and the Court and looked forward to further exploring the opportunities.
H.E High Commissioner Eugene Kayihura of Rwanda was briefed on the activities of the Court and commended the achievements so far.
The President of the Court thanked Rwanda for both ratifying the Protocol and making the Declaration to allow NGOs and individuals to access the Court.
Rwanda is among seven out of 29 countries which have ratified the Protocol and make the Declaration. Others are: Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mali and hosts Tanzania.
The countries which have ratified the Protocol are: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Comoros, Congo, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Libya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Niger, Uganda, Rwanda, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo and Tunisia.
