Arusha, 22 May 2025: The African Court on Human & Peoples’ Rights (the Court/AfCHPR) will convene for its 77th Ordinary Session, with a series of events scheduled for the 2, 3, 4 and 26 June 2025, at the seat of the Court in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
On Monday, 2 June 2025, the Court will hold elections for the new Bureau, during which Judges will elect a new President and Vice President to succeed Hon. Lady Justice Imani Daud Aboud of Tanzania and Hon. Justice Modibo Sacko of Mali, whose respective terms as President and Vice President conclude on that day.
On Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 June 2025, the Court will hold a joint retreat with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) to discuss complementarity between the two institutions.
On Wednesday 4 June 2025, the Court will hold a Public Hearing in the matter of African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights v Republic of Kenya, (Application No. 006/2012) commonly known as the Ogiek case. On 12 November 2025, the Court set a three-month deadline for the Republic of Kenya to file a report outlining the measures and steps taken to comply with its earlier judgment in the case.
On Thursday 26June 2025, the Court will deliver seven (7) decisions adopted during its 76th and 77th Ordinary Sessions.
