Exceptions and safeguard clauses

1. In the Event of Serious Disturbances Occurring In the Economy of a Member State Following the Application of the Provisions of this Chapter, the Member State Concerned Shall, after Informing the Executive Secretary and the other Member States, Take the Necessary Safeguard Measures Pending the Approval of the Council. 2. These measures shall remain in force for a maximum period of one year. They may not be extended beyond that period except with the approval of the Council. 3. The Council shall examine the method of application of these measures while they remain in force.
