JUSTICE DENNIS DOMINIC ADJEI – GHANA

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei is Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana. He was the Court of Appeal Judge of Ghana from 7 July 2010 to 3 July 2025. He was elected as Judge of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights in July 2022 for a term of six years. 

He was one of the Nine- Member Advisory Committee of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei was elected as the Inns of Court and Advanced Legal Institute of the University of London Senior Judges Fellow for Common Law jurisdictions for 2022-23 academic year. He is a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei attended University of Ghana and proceeded to the Ghana School of Law. He obtained an Executive Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. He further obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of London. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Judicial Studies from the Duke Law School, Duke University, North Carolina, United States of America.

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei was the Director of the Judicial Training Institute of Ghana and held the substantive office from 2014-2022. He was the Dean, Faculty of Law, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration from January 2019 to August, 2020. The Judge was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Accra Metropolitan University and part-time Adjunct Professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi – Ghana. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Accra, Ghana, where he lectures Interpretation of Statutes and Deeds; and Land Law and Conveyancing.

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei has authored seven textbooks namely: International Human and Peoples’ Rights, Law and Practice (2025); Modern Approach to the Law of Interpretation in Ghana (4th Edition, 2025); Criminal Procedure and Practice in Ghana (3rd Edition (2021); Land Law, Practice and Conveyancing in Ghana (3rd Edition, 2021); Contemporary Criminal Law in Ghana ( 3rd Edition, 2021); and The Essential Laws on Credit Creation and Registration of Security Interests, Constitutional Law of Ghana- Evolution, Theory and Practice (2020).

Judge Dennis Adjei has also co-authored a textbook entitled “The Alternative Dispute Resolution – A Ghanaian Perspective.” (2nd Edition 2025). He also has several publications in Peer Review Journals. 

Justice Adjei was Knighted by the Holy Father, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI to the Order of St Gregory the Great in 2005.

In January 2026, the Center for International Mediators and Arbitrators (England & Wales) conferred on Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, its Fellowship, together with five other distinguished practitioners, in recognition of his eminent contribution to arbitration and to the development of the law. 

In April 2026, at its second meeting held in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, the Center’s Board of Trustees unanimously resolved to confer on him the distinction of Senior Fellow (S.FCIMArb), in recognition of his stature and acknowledged standing. The Senior Fellowship is a further tier established by the Center for highly esteemed jurists and practitioners in the field.
