President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Hon. Justice Blaise Tchikaya, was received in audience by Senegal’s Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Hon. Cheikh Niang, and the Minister of Justice, H.E. Moussa Sarr, on 8 July 2026 during his official visit to Senegal.
Held as part of the Court’s 20th anniversary commemoration (2006–2026), the meeting focused on Senegal’s role in the African judicial system, the African Court’s mandate, and the importance of strengthening access to justice across the continent.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the challenges related to the implementation of the Court’s judgments, as well as the need to enhance citizens’ access to justice.
The discussions reflected Senegal’s continued commitment to a strong African system of justice that serves the peoples of the continent and contributes to the realization of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The visit forms part of the African Court’s ongoing engagement with Member States to promote the effective protection of human and peoples’ rights, strengthen the implementation of its decisions, and reinforce the rule of law and judicial cooperation across Africa.
