Arusha, 2 September, 2016: The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) will hold its 42nd Ordinary Session from 5-16 September 2016 at its seat in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE SESSION TO ELECT NEW BUREAU AS FOUR JUDGES RETIRES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Judges, among others, will examine about 60 applications and four requests for Advisory Opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session will also see two new Judges sworn-in and election of the new Bureau. The two new Judges were elected at last month\u2019s AU Summit in Kigali, Rwanda. The two judges are: Lady-Justice Ntyam Ondo Mengue from Cameroon and Lady-Justice Marie Th\u00e9r\u00e9se Mukamulisa from Rwanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The term of office of four judges namely Justice Augustino Ramadhani (Tanzania), current President, Lady-Justice Elsie Thompson (Nigeria), Vice-President, Justice Fatsah Ouguergouz (Algeria) and Justice Duncan Tambala (Malawi)\u2014will come to an end on 5 September, 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. The Court is composed of eleven judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.
2. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
