{"id":620,"date":"2019-11-29T15:26:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-29T12:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.african-court.org\/wpafc\/?p=620"},"modified":"2021-05-26T10:47:45","modified_gmt":"2021-05-26T07:47:45","slug":"african-court-conveys-condolences-following-death-of-justice-mutsinzi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.african-court.org\/afchpr\/african-court-conveys-condolences-following-death-of-justice-mutsinzi\/","title":{"rendered":"AFRICAN COURT CONVEYS CONDOLENCES FOLLOWING DEATH OF JUSTICE MUTSINZI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Zanzibar, 27 November 2019: The President of the African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights, Hon Justice Sylvain Or\u00e9, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the death of Hon Justice Jean Mutsinzi, a former Judge of the Court, who also served as President of the Court from 2008-2010.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing on of our elder brother, friend and colleague, Hon Justice Mutsinzi,\u2019\u2019 he informed the on-going 55th Ordinary Session in Zanzibar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018\u2019On behalf the African Court Judges and the Staff, I send our deepest condolences to Justice Mutsinzi\u2019s family and the people of Rwanda at this difficult time. The world mourns with you and celebrates the extraordinary life of this remarkable human rights champion who devoted his life for protection of human rights, not only in his country, but the entire Continent,\u2019\u2019 added Justice Or\u00e9.<br>His legacy, Justice Or\u00e9 said, will stand as an example to all of us to persist in our pursuit of human rights, respect and dignity of an African.<br>Justice Mutsinzi was among the first Judges of the African Court elected for a six-year term of office on 22 January 2006 at the Eighth Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union Held in Khartoum.
