Arusha, 26 May 2026:<\/em><\/strong> The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) will convene its 81st<\/sup> Ordinary Session from 1-26 June 2026<\/strong> in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court will consider applications pending before it and hold deliberations on other related judicial matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court will continue to plan and implement activities marking its 20th<\/sup> Anniversary, through a year-long series of initiatives being held across the continent as a way of highlighting its achievements, challenges and contribution to the protection of human and peoples\u2019 rights over the past two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday 5 June 2026<\/strong>, the Court will deliver four (4) decisions adopted during its 80th<\/sup> Ordinary Session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decisions will be delivered in the following cases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) is a continental court established by African Union Member States to ensure the protection of human and peoples’ rights in Africa. The Court complements and reinforces the functions of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. The Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. The Court\u2019s mandate includes hearing cases and disputes concerning the interpretation and application of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, as well as any other human rights instrument ratified by the concerned States.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
