{"id":23551,"date":"2026-03-06T14:17:44","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T11:17:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.african-court.org\/afchpr\/?p=23551"},"modified":"2026-03-06T14:17:57","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T11:17:57","slug":"african-court-on-human-and-peoples-rights-launches-new-website-at-opening-of-2026-judicial-year-and-launch-of-20th-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.african-court.org\/afchpr\/african-court-on-human-and-peoples-rights-launches-new-website-at-opening-of-2026-judicial-year-and-launch-of-20th-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights launches new website at opening of 2026 Judicial Year and Launch of 20th Anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Arusha, 03 March 2026<\/em><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) has officially launched its revamped website, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.african-court.org\">www.african-court.org<\/a> on the margins of the Solemn Ceremony marking the Opening of its 2026 Judicial Year and the commencement of its 20<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary commemoration at its Seat in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Solemn Ceremony was graced by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, as Guest of Honour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, the President of the Court, Honourable Justice Blaise Tchikaya, formally declared the launch of the Commemoration of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the Court and the new website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI take great pleasure in launching the Court\u2019s new official website, a renewed digital platform designed to enhance accessibility, transparency and engagement with all stakeholders, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Redesigned with improved functionality and a more user-friendly interface, the website provides easier access to judgments, orders, advisory opinions, press releases, news updates and other developments of the Court&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An exhibition showcasing the new website, up-coming e-library platform, landmark decisions and other key milestones and achievements of the Court over the past two decades was presented to President Mahama and it highlighted the website\u2019s enhanced features, improved accessibility and alignment with African Union brand guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the exhibition, Senior Information and Communication Officer and Head of Communication Unit, Chipiliro Kansilanga Ngu\u00e9 explained that the revamped website has been designed to be user-friendly and accessible to all stakeholders by providing simplified navigation, improved search functionality and easier access to the Court\u2019s decisions and other key resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur goal was to create a user-friendly platform that makes the Court\u2019s work accessible to everyone, not only legal experts,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The revamped site also introduces optimized access across devices, ensuring that legal practitioners, researchers, Member States, civil society organisations, other stakeholders including the general public can more efficiently engage with the Court\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It further provides easy access to the Court\u2019s latest decisions, updated case statistics and enhanced visual content. In addition, the integrated e-library provides 24\/7 electronic access to books, journals, research publications and other legal resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new website will also house African Jurisprudence Database (AJUDATA), a ground-breaking initiative aimed at establishing a comprehensive, thematically organized online database for African International Courts and Tribunals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The redesigned website offers multilingual access in Arabic, English, French and Portuguese, ensuring that stakeholders across the continent can engage with the Court\u2019s work in their preferred official language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new website can be accessed at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.african-court.org\">www.african-court.org<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>NOTES FOR EDITORS<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) is a continental court established by African Union Member States to ensure the protection of human and peoples&#8217; rights in Africa. The Court is an organ of the African Union and it complements and reinforces the functions of the African Commission on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights which is based in Banjul, The Gambia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each year, the Court launches its activities with a solemn ceremony to official opening of its judicial year, underscoring its commitment to the protection of human and peoples\u2019 rights across Africa and beyond. The opening sets the tone for the year ahead and serves as a call to action for meaningful strides in safeguarding the fundamental rights of all Africans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Court is commemorating its 20<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary, marking two decades of its journey from 2006 to 2026 in the protection of human and peoples\u2019 rights in Africa.
