Arusha, 27 August 2025:<\/em><\/strong> The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) will convene its 78th<\/sup> Ordinary Session from 1 to 26 September 2025<\/strong> at its Seat in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key highlight of the Session is the Conference on \u201cEnhancing Women\u2019s Engagement with the Procedures of the African Court<\/em>\u201d to be held from 3-4 September 2025<\/strong> at the Seat of the Court in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Conference will bring together Counsel on the Court\u2019s Roster, Bar Associations and Law Societies from AU Member States, Civil Society Organisations and NGOs focused on gender and women\u2019s rights, leading experts and AU organs with a human rights mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further information on the Conference and key outcomes of the Session, will be shared through the official platforms of the Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the four-week Session, the Court will consider applications pending before the Court and hold deliberations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court will also undertake preparations for the commemoration of the Court\u2019s 20th<\/sup> Anniversary in 2026, which will feature a year-long series of continent-wide activities highlighting the Court\u2019s achievements, challenges and contribution to protecting human and peoples\u2019 rights over the past two decades.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) is an organ of the African Union established by African Union Member States to ensure the protection of human and peoples’ rights in Africa.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. The Court complements and reinforces the functions of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. The Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions and may hold Extra-Ordinary Sessions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
