Arusha, 31 January 2024<\/em><\/strong>:<\/strong> The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (AfCHPR) will on Monday, 12 February 2024<\/strong> hold a solemn ceremony marking the opening of its 2024 Judicial Year, under the theme \u201cEnhancing the Justiciability of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights with an emphasis on the Right to Education<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony will be held at the Seat of the Court in Arusha, Tanzania and will be graced by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat and the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya Hon. Justin Muturi, on behalf of His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 200 delegates drawn from various institutions and organizations are expected to attend the ceremony. These include representatives of African Union Member States, Regional and Sub-Regional Courts, African Union organs with a human rights mandate, African Union Ambassadors accredited to Tanzania, members of the judicial corps of Tanzania, representatives of Bar Associations, civil society organisations, members of the academia, members of the media and other stakeholders involved in the work of the Court and the protection of human rights on the continent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceremony will commence with a solemn procession of Honourable Judges of the African Court from 10:30AM East African Time (EAT) and will be live-streamed via https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/africancourt\/live<\/a> (in English and French languages).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The solemn ceremony of the Opening of the 2024 Judicial Year marks the commencement of the 72nd<\/sup> Ordinary Session of the Court, scheduled to run up to 8 March 2024 at its Seat in Arusha, the United Republic of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 13 February 2024, the Court will deliver four (4) judgements, commencing at 10:00 AM East African Time. The delivery of decisions will be live-streamed in both English and French on the following links:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
