{"id":10331,"date":"2022-02-25T12:26:22","date_gmt":"2022-02-25T09:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.african-court.org\/afchpr\/?p=10331"},"modified":"2025-10-22T11:33:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T08:33:09","slug":"inaugural-opening-of-the-judicial-year-of-the-african-court-on-human-and-peoples-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.african-court.org\/afchpr\/inaugural-opening-of-the-judicial-year-of-the-african-court-on-human-and-peoples-rights\/","title":{"rendered":"INAUGURAL OPENING OF THE JUDICIAL YEAR OF THE AFRICAN COURT ON HUMAN AND PEOPLES\u2019 RIGHTS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Arusha, 24 February 2022<\/em><\/strong><em>: <\/em>The African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights (the Court), will, on 28 February 2022, hold a solemn ceremony to mark the inaugural opening of its Judicial Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony, whose theme is <em>\u2018The African Court and the Africa we want\u2019,<\/em> will be held at the premises of the Court in Arusha, and will be marked by speeches from human rights stakeholders from across the continent and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The guest of honour and keynote speaker at the ceremony will be His Excellency Prof. Yemi Osibanjo, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ceremony will also be attended by representatives of Member States, Regional and Sub-Regional Courts, African Union organs with a human rights mandate, African Union Ambassadors accredited to Tanzania, members of the judicial corps of Tanzania, representatives of Bar Associations, civil society organisations, members of the academia and other stakeholders involved in the work of the Court and the protection of human rights on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ceremony will commence at 10:30am East African Time (EAT), &nbsp;will follow a hybrid model, and will be live-streamed, to allow all Africans the opportunity to witness this auspicious and solemn event of Africa\u2019s apex Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTES FOR EDITORS:<\/strong><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Court is composed of eleven Judges, nationals of Member States of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.
